Good news to us since we live nearby but bad news for these food hunters from the other side of town. Coconut House; this little Malaysian-Chinese restaurant is hidden on the top floor of a cluster of offices area in Moorabbin.
As we lived in this area for years and we didn’t even know about it…. shame on us and I honestly should rethink myself as being a proper foodie.
Anyway, I found it eventually, after my hubby heard from someone he bumped into once, and mentioned it only roughly and totally remembered the name incorrectly. Drove into the driveway, before I even parked, there were some other cars following me. This made me wonder what attracts this much traffic during this time of day in the middle of nowhere. It has a very cute name–Coconut house.

Saw an arrow on the way saying “restaurant lift this way”, it feels like I’m taking part in a treasure hunt. Squeezed into the lift with another few happy strangers, apparently, you would have a good mood if you know that you’ll enjoy the food. Another few arrows on the wall showed me the way and in the quiet building, it’s a bit spooky to completely trust the dodgy signs.
Once I walked into the restaurant, it was a surprise how busy it was! It was packed with guests and people sitting at the reception waiting for their takeaways. Thank gosh I ordered over the phone.
The whole place was well organized and tidy, staffs were friendly and tables weren’t crowded together unlike most Asian restaurants, you can easily find a comfy spot for putting a high chair.
Coconut House | Authentic Asian Food
We ordered Sambal calamari and garlic king prawns. Have to say, they might taste better on the spot (that’s the thing with all Asian dishes). However, I still want to say “yummy”!
I don’t like battered meat so I ordered both in stir fry style. Calamaris were cooked just fine and the sambal was totally absorbed in the flesh but don’t worry, it has the kick but not spicy if you’re not a chili person. And I love the king prawns tossed in the garlic sauce, perfect with warm rice.
What an eye-opener, Coconut House is such an interesting venue for you to reward your taste bud. So bring your friends and family, old ones, little ones, and share some delicious Malaysian food. Feel Malaysian today?
