Emerald Village Bakery & Cafe | Emerald

Before driving off to Emerald, friends of ours who love camping near Emerald, told us about the Emerald Village Bakery and cafe, and said it’s a must GO.

It’s never on my mind map, but since my second daughter was born, I’ve been curious about this little village named after her birthstone, Emerald. Over the weekend, we made our way to Emerald, which is an hour away from the Melbourne CBD. So perfect for a day trip with the little ones.
Before going there, friends of ours who love camping nearby Emerald told us about the Emerald Village Bakery and Cafe, and said it’s a must GO.

So we went.

Don’t get scared by the busy parking on the little street, plenty of free on-street car parking nearby. We parked right behind the Emerald primary school, it’s on the opposite side of the Emerald station reserve and less than 2 minutes walking distance towards all the shops and of course the Emerald Village Bakery and Cafe.

Apparently, this café already has a good reputation in Emerald for a long run as it felt like all the village residents were sitting in there and enjoying a chillax weekend morning sipping on their coffees.

It was Easter weekend, think we just picked the right time to visit the Emerald Village Bakery and Cafe, as in NOT. The whole place was jam-packed with a long queue at the checkout. However, once you’ve walked through that little door of theirs, it’s like you’ve found a hidden world and all you want to do is finding a seat and dive in all the goodies they provide. Surprisingly even during a busy weekend, don’t worry about finding a seat, there are load more seats next door if you can’t get any in their original store.

In general, the whole cafe gave us a homey feeling with its spacious “living room” design and shelves filled with bread, cakes and all kinds of snacks and pastries. Of course, at the end of the day, its all about flavour apart from having a great vibe.

We bought some plane hot-cross buns for back home and some cookies and one vanilla slice shared by two for morning tea. Plus, some coffee to go just in case, as you never know when you have to run off after the kids.

The pastry of the vanilla slice was crunchy and fresh and the custard filling was rich, smooth and light at the same time. All in all, it was a nice piece of sweet we got. Coffee came quite quickly, well, normal speed I guess, in such a busy time of the year. Honestly, I really have to give the people working at the Emerald Village Bakery and Cafe a high mark on their efficiency and customer service. You won’t get the feeling that they’re understaffed or any lack of attitude because of the craziness, and a business which is willing to go one mile further on the cost during the busy season is worth of getting a generous payback.

We end up having our lunch at the Emerald Bakery and Cafe too after a nice play in the Emerald station reserve, little Zonni was excited to say hi to Puffing Billy when it passed by, so did many other little cuties.

All in all, it was a great relaxing day out with family, sunshine, play in the park with yummy food in the stomach, what more you can ask for!

Enjoy and hope you make your way to the Emerald Bakery and Cafe one day, let us know how you go.
