Monkey Can Fly | Highett

For a nice cuppa, highett has a good selection of cafes for you to choose from. And our new favourite which is also super close to the library, is Monkey Can Fly.

Monday, just a regular Monday, but with storytime, so it’s always nice to get half an hour for myself sitting in the library doing wild thinking, while little Zonni is enjoying some stories, dancing and singing. The Highett library we go to might be the smallest library I have ever seen, the first time I thought it was a public toilet, however, it’s what’s inside matters. You can say, it’s tiny but mighty. Staff, there are so smiley and friendly, kids love them.

There were 2 sessions of storytime, 10:30 and 11:15, so normally we love going early then make our way to have some morning tea nearby, and that would be lovely quality catchup between me and my girls, spoiled huh? I need to make the most of this as much as I can!

In this library, storytime isn’t always crowded. Since it’s a mini style library, it doesn’t have many adult visitors, so when it’s storytime, it feels like the whole place belongs to these kiddos. The storytime is free and fun, it lasts around 30mins, then little ones will be given some drawings and stickers to bring home. It’s cute to see how easily they can feel content. They also have a small range of cd, DVD and loads of kids books for you to lend.

Monkey Can Fly | Coffee & Coziness

For a nice cuppa, Highett has a good selection of cafes for you to choose from. And our new favourite which is also super close to the library is Monkey can Fly. Funny name right? It doesn’t look so big or cozy from outside, walking in you’ll see another world. Love the Asian style artwork on the walls. Generous space between the tables, which is pram friendly, and of course yummy coffee. The backyard is also perfect for a sunny gathering with friends.

Monkey Can Fly | Food

Homemade Scones & various delicious jams!

Apart from the kids-friendly environment, you won’t be disappointed by the food either. Love their Spanish breakfast, which I can have perfectly for lunch.  Its sautéed seasonal vegetables are so crunchy, fresh and flavorsome, especially with the kick of chorizo, combined with perfectly poached eggs! You will have a very comfy stomach afterwards!

Their chicken focaccia and BLAT are also worth trying! The poached chicken in the focaccia is quite tender, and it nicely teams up with fresh vegetables, feta cheese, and homemade mayo. One word, satisfying! Simple BLAT has all the beautiful fresh ingredients which are bound by their homemade fruit chutney mayo.

They also have a kids menu for little foodies, and the fluffy pancakes are little Zoni’s favourite. As well as their scones, which comes as a package with coffee! Perfect for mama daughter’s morning tea time!

The only downside of the Monkey can Fly is the inconsistency of its customer service; the reason being you barely get a warm welcome from its staff. Even though its table service, you still have to count on your luck if you get seen. By saying that, some times their staff can be so attentive and bubbly but don’t get surprised if you find no-smile with slow reaction is also their style in some days.

Guess customer service can have its good day and bad day huh?

But anyway, give it a go if you’re curious and let me know how you go.

Enjoy the good stuff!
