The Tradesman Cafe | Moorabbin

I admit, I am a big  and good eater with my own kind of criticism. But there’s a place I actually struggled to finish my food, not because of the quality but quantity. And this place is called “The Tradesman Café”.

I admit I am a big and good eater with my own kind of criticism. But there’s a place I actually struggled to finish my food, not because of the quality but quantity. And this place is called “The Tradesman Café”.

Just as its name, the Tradesman café is like a hidden treasure for Melbournians. Who would think of going into an industrial area for brekkie or lunch? Probably not many, unless you’re the tradesman that works nearby. Intrigued by the bold name, I went with my eating partners, AKA my family.

Saturday morning and the parking in front was packed, well there are not many spots anyway, we drove down the side street and squeezed our car into a spot at the dead-end of the street. Full parking normally is a good sign for food hunters!

Walking in, we were easily seated and were surprised there wasn’t any queue. The inside of the café was quite spacious, not as small as it seems from outside. A warm welcome and attentive service from the staff can be another tick on the nice-eating-place-list.

Had a look in their pantry, all the sweets were looking extremely attractive but super large. Well, maybe for a little woman as in me, and a not-so-big eater as in my hubby. Share or not to share becomes a problem. Maybe next time when I am really hungry, I told myself.

Eyes on the menu. I ordered the red velvet pancakes, sounds yummy and I have been always fascinated by the colour of “red velvet”. Hubby ordered their chilli scrambled egg, he’s a huge fan of scrambled egg, and finding good ones could be his challenge since he’s a pretty critical scramble eggs eater. Truth to be told, the simplest dish can be the hardest to cook well.

The Tradesman | The Food

Once the food arrived, my eyeballs dropped as my red velvet pancakes looked Amaze-ball!!! But also amazingly generous in quantity. There was not one,  two but 3 fluffy bright red velvet pancakes on my plate. All topped with one big serve of vanilla ice-cream and surrounded with brownie soil and fresh fruits. Oh my, this was going to be my brekkie challenge! It looked like a pretty little mountain in front of me but I love the first impression.

Now down to the taste, the red velvet pancakes were so soft and melted in my mouth. The combined effect of all the ingredients was playing so harmoniously in my mouth that I couldn’t stop eating!

I can’t comment on the scrambled egg since I was working hard on my pancakes, but based on my hubby, it was cooked nicely and tasted fine. However, he didn’t look super impressed. “Its scrambled eggs, but not tasting much chilli, too mild for me I think. I might need more kick in there as in I was expecting Chilli scrambled eggs as the menu said.” He laughed.

Anyway, the whole dining experience at The Tradesman Cafe wasn’t bad. Like little Zonni got drawing pens and paper from the staff once she sat down and we had a quite peaceful and relaxing brekkie. Guess the vibe makes us all quite chilled out. The only downside would be the lack of parking in front of the café and you need to drive down the side street and try your luck.

Hope our experience would give you enough heads up about the Trademan Cafe & have a lovely day.
