
Bitter Cookies (Dutch Bitterkoekjes)
This is a super easy and quick kids-friendly Dutch bitter cookies recipe (bitter koekjes) that your family and friend will thank you for!
It’s the time of the year again in the Netherlands to bake up some sweet Dutch Spice nuts (pepernoten / kruidnoten) for the Sinterklaas festival. Our Spice nuts recipe is simple and quick! Your kids will love you for it!
Please Note: You are able to buy Dutch Speculaas Spice Mix from Special Dutch stores online. Or you can make it yourself by mixing the dry ingredients mentioned in the recipe.
Pre-heat the oven to 175 degrees (fan-forced 130 degrees); when using fan-forced change it to 150.
Combine all the dry ingredients together in a large bowl
Chop the butter into small pieces and add it together with the milk to the dried ingredients mixture
Mix it with the hand until you have one big ball
Roll a little bit of dough into a small marble size shaped balls. With this dough, you can make approx. 70 Spice nuts (pepernoten/ kruidnoten).
Place all the little Spice nuts (pepernoten/ kruidnoten) on a baking sheet; on a oven tray.
Bake them for approx. 25 minutes.
Combine all the dry ingredients together. Tha's all :)
