Roasted Peanuts

Roasted peanuts are a popular snack food that has been enjoyed for generations. They are perfect for any occasion and can be enjoyed while watching a movie, hanging out with friends, or simply relaxing at home. And they are incredibly easy to make!

The process of roasting the peanuts brings out their natural oils which make them even more delicious. With just a few ingredients and some simple steps, you can create your own roasted peanuts in no time.

In this post, we will go over everything you need to know about making roasted peanuts - from selecting the right peanuts to choosing the perfect seasoning. We will also discuss some helpful tips for getting that perfect crunch without burning them.

But before diving into the details, let's explore the history of peanuts and how they became such a beloved snack food around the world.

The History of Peanuts

Peanuts, also known as groundnuts or goobers, have been around for thousands of years. They originated in South America and were brought to Africa by Portuguese traders in the 16th century. From there they spread throughout Africa and eventually made their way to North America through the transatlantic slave trade.

At first, peanuts were used mainly as animal feed. It wasn't until the late 19th century that they started being grown as an agricultural crop in the United States. But it was George Washington Carver who really helped popularize them as a human food source. Carver's research on peanuts showed their nutritional value and versatility, leading him to develop over 300 different peanut-based products including peanut butter.

Today, peanuts are grown all over the world and are one of the most widely consumed nuts globally due to their high protein content and rich flavor.

How to Select Peanuts

When selecting your peanuts for roasting, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, make sure you choose raw or unroasted nuts rather than already roasted nuts. This will ensure that your peanuts are fresh and haven't lost any of their natural flavor.

Next, look for peanuts that have a uniform size and color. This will help ensure that they roast evenly and don't burn or become too soft on the inside.

Finally, try to choose peanuts that are still in their shell. While shelled peanuts may be more convenient, it's often more difficult to tell if they are fresh or not.

Choosing Seasonings

While roasted peanuts are delicious on their own, there are many ways to add additional flavor by choosing different spices and seasonings. Some popular options include salt, garlic powder, cumin, chili powder, and honey.

However you choose to season your roasted peanuts, be sure to mix them well before roasting so the flavors meld together perfectly.

With just a few simple steps and some basic ingredients, you can create a tasty snack that's perfect for any occasion. Therefore, we would like to share with you here a super easy & delicious recipe for making your own roasted peanuts back home.

Roasted Peanuts

A practical family recipe for Roasted Peanuts with ingredients, method steps, and serving notes.

Prep: 5 min Cook: 10 min Total: 15 min Serves: 200 Grams

Ingredients

  • 250 g Raw Peanuts (with skin on)
  • 1 tsp Salt (optional)

Instructions

  1. Put the frying pan/ wok on medium-high fire
  2. No need to heat the pan up directly put the peanuts in there. I used red skin peanuts but my folks love using the pink ones since the skins are easier to peel off
  3. Heat the peanuts up for a minute, and start using a wooden spoon to stir them, give a bit movement, so make sure all nuts get taken care of by the heat
  4. Do step 3 for 2 to 3 minutes. Once you see all the peanuts got a bit of a black charcoal colour on both sides, plus that the skins start to fall off, its time to remove the peanuts from the fire.
  5. (optional if you love eating the skins) wait till its cool, using hands to gently rubbing them till skins fell off, then lightly blow the skin away from the plate. I normally do this in the garden or anywhere you don’t have to worry about cleaning.
  6. Done! Now, you can start enjoying this quick snack, trust me, for peanut lovers, this is a treat! At least this snack satisfies the big ones and little ones in my house. Well, not good for our puppy though.

Notes

  • Please Note: You could also use the microwave for this recipe. However, the peanuts will not get really “roasted” and cool down too quickly. This will make them soft too ?
